SUMMARY:Sustainability meets Scalability: Joint EIC – SUNERGY Roadmapping Event on Renewable Hydrogen\, Fuels and Chemicals
DESCRIPTION:📅 26 & 27 March\, 2025\n📍 European Commission\, CDMA\, Rue du Champ de Mars 21\, 1050 Brussels \nAs the world grapples with the urgent need for climate change mitigation\, the pathway to sustainable fuels\, chemicals\, and materials derived from renewable energy\, water\, and abundant resources becomes more crucial than ever. However\, it’s time to go beyond buzzwords and technology hype. To ensure these solutions are not only scalable but truly sustainable\, we must critically assess our current strategies and future goals. \nThe upcoming event brings together leaders from academia\, industry\, start-ups\, and policy to address the key challenges and opportunities surrounding renewable hydrogen\, fuels\, and chemicals. With a focus on both scalability and sustainability\, we will engage in candid discussions to evaluate where we stand today and where we need to go. \nOver two dynamic days\, participants will dive into specific topics\, from hydrogen production to the carbon economy\, with the aim of defining concrete outcomes and setting achievable milestones. Through plenary sessions\, interactive formats\, and a detailed roadmapping exercise\, we will align on the societal needs\, technological advancements\, and political frameworks required to drive forward a truly sustainable solution. \nJoin us as we work together to shape the future of renewable energy and build the roadmap to a cleaner\, more sustainable world! \n👉 What you can expect: \n\nGain a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-play of renewable hydrogen\, fuels and chemicals technologies\,\nExchange leading academics\, visionary entrepreneurs\, industrial leaders\, policymakers\, and investors\,\nContribute to the development of an EU Technological Roadmap on Renewable Fuels and Chemicals\,\nFind partners for future collaborations and enjoy ample opportunities to network.\n\n  \n👉 What we want to achieve: \n\nReality check: Match R&I realities with industrial needs and policy ambitions\,\nGain a clear understanding of the next technological milestones\,\nGuide innovation at an early stage towards the most sustainable configurations that meet societal needs\,\nBring together the entire innovation eco-system on renewable hydrogen\, fuels and chemicals.\n\n  \n👉 Topics covered: \n\nFrom a societal need to technological innovation: policy\, industrialization and investors session\nSolar-to-X devices: where are we now?\nThe devices of tomorrow: with biotechnology\, autonomous operation and computational materials science to fully sustainable devices\nTransition of technology to (social) innovation: techno-sustainability assessment\, social challenges and opportunities and market considerations\nStandards\, common metrics\, fair benchmarking: key enablers for upscaling technology\n\n  \nNext to plenaries and panel discussions\, the programme will include workshops in parallel sessions. On Day 1\, we will work out together the next critical milestones on the technological level\, based on the following thematic working groups: \n\nAdvanced Electrochemical Conversion\,\nPhotosynthetic Devices\,\nBiological Conversion\,\nCarbon Capture\,\nKey Performance Indicators (KPIs) for EU projects\,\nYoung Scientists Working Group.\n\nOn Day 2\, we will focus on the future market opportunities and applicability\, based on the following working groups: \n\nProduct Viability and Market Readiness\,\nIntegration and Infrastructure\,\nSustainability and Metrics.\n\nShowcasing European innovation\nThe conference will offer the opportunity to present your innovation\, either in form of a project roll-up or by exhibiting a demonstrator (tangible\, no poster). Please indicate in the registration form if you would like to show us what you got. Time and space are limited. We therefore reserve the right to select roll-ups/ demonstrators to ensure a wide coverage in terms of topics and presenters. \n📋 The agenda can be found here.\n📎 Register here!!\n  \nKeywords:\nGreen hydrogen | Renewable fuels and chemicals | Technological Roadmapping | Artificial photosynthesis | CCU technologies \n  \nOrganised by: \nEuropean Innovation Council\, imec\, EU projects SOLDAC and S2B\, and the EU large-scale initiative SUNERGY \nSOLDAC has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 101069359.
