SUMMARY:11th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2025
DESCRIPTION:📅 March 18-19\, 2025\nAround the world\, political ambition to accelerate climate action and to transform our energy systems is advancing: we are seeing record growth in sustainable energy sources\, which are projected to surpass coal as the largest source of electricity by the end of 2025. However\, this transition is taking place at very uneven speeds. We need to broaden the momentum to reach all regions of the world. \nCoordinated international action\, innovative approaches and effective financial support are key to achieving the objectives the world has set itself at COP28: tripling renewable energy capacity\, doubling energy efficiency and transitioning away from fossil fuels. With this in mind\, we must come together to share experiences\, showcase solutions\, and build alliances that will empower societies around the globe to a just transition to 1.5 degrees. \nTo this end\, the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action are jointly sponsoring the 11th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue organized by the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE)\, the German Solar Association (BSW)\, the German Energy Agency (dena) and eclareon. \nWith around 40 country delegations and\, in total\, more than 2000 attendees from government\, business\, academia and civil society from over 100 countries in 2024\, the BETD is one of the premier international hubs on the global energy transition\, a forum where challenges can evolve into real-world solutions. In its 11th edition\, the BETD will continue this tradition of providing a platform on global energy transition\, even as it falls into the period of elections in Germany. It will put a special focus on how investment for the energy transition and green growth in emerging markets and developing economies can be mobilized. \n  \n📎 More information here: https://www.energydialogue.berlin/

SUMMARY:TAKE-OFF Project Final Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join the TAKE-OFF Final Conference on the 11th of December 2024 at the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) in Brussels\, where we will explore the final results and future prospects of the TAKE-OFF project and synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuels (eSAF) production. \nTo reduce GHG emissions in the aviation sector\, the European Commission has set\, through the RefuelEU Aviation Regulation\, binding targets for the supply of synthetic SAF in aviation. It is therefore crucial that the technologies for the production of such fuels are scaled up at an accelerated pace to provide the necessary volumes. \nThe TAKE-OFF project has pioneered an innovative process to convert CO₂ and renewable hydrogen into eSAF using olefins as intermediates. This unique technology offers a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution compared to other power-to-liquid alternatives. By capturing CO₂ from industrial sources or through Direct Air Capture and combining it with renewable hydrogen\, the project demonstrates the successful conversion of CO₂ into light olefins\, which are then upgraded into eSAF. \nThe conference will present the most innovative outcomes of the TAKE-OFF project from a technical viewpoint while highlighting the crucial role of standardisation and certification of eSAF for the future of aviation and the importance of a supportive policy framework for the deployment of eSAF in the aviation fuel mix. \nFurthermore\, the TAKE-OFF final conference will highlight the advancements of key EU-funded projects focused on developing and commercialising eSAF and foster dialogue between policymakers\, fuel producers\, and airlines to ensure a smooth and efficient rollout of eSAF across Europe. \nThis event will be of great interest to aviation professionals\, policymakers\, and sustainability advocates eager to learn how eSAF is key to a sustainable\, safe\, and economically viable future for aviation. \nHave a look at the draft agenda and register here by the 4th of December at the latest. \nFor more information please email Antonio La Mantia at antonio.lamantia@co2value.eu. \nCO2 Value Europe\, as SUNER-C consortium partner and SUNERGY supporter\, is proudly part of the TAKE-OFF consortium as WP6 leader in communication and dissemination. The project plans to develop a next-generation Power-to-SAF process which converts renewable hydrogen and captured CO2 to a class of hydrocarbons called light olefins\, such as ethylene and propylene\, which then need to be subsequently converted into the final jet fuel through further reactions.

SUMMARY:German Federal Government: Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:The global energy transition is one of the most pressing tasks of our age. At the same time\, it holds great potential for a sustainable future with increasing global prosperity. At COP28\, the global community decided to accelerate the energy transition significantly in order to keep the 1.5°C target within reach. All countries should contribute to tripling renewable energy capacity globally as well the global average annual rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030. In Dubai\, the world also committed to transitioning away from fossil fuels and emphasized the need to act faster in this critical decade. However\, ambitious energy transition targets are only as good as their implementation. The German Government wants to shape and accelerate this in a spirit of international cooperation. \nTo this end\, the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action are jointly hosting the 10th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD). \nWith around 50 international delegations and more than 2000 participants from the business and science communities and civil society from over 130 countries as well as over 17\,000 virtual participants in 2023\, the BETD is one of the most important international conferences on the global energy transition. In 2024\, the BETD will once again be a key platform for international decision-makers to discuss concrete measures and cooperation to transform our energy systems so that we can accelerate the expansion of renewable energy and realise the full potential of a global energy transition\, also with a view to sustainable growth\, a socially just transformation\, jobs and energy security. \nPlease click here to register.

SUMMARY:Recent advances on photoelectrochemical water splitting
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION:\nThe combustion of fossil fuels has significantly contributed to environmental pollution and a substantial increase in atmospheric CO2 and other greenhouse gases. This phenomenon has played a major role on escalating global warming and climate change\, adversely impacting on ecosystems worldwide. In this sense\, one of the primary objectives of the European Union is to convert solar energy into added-value chemicals and fuels\, aiming at reducing imported fossil fuels and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. Artificial photosynthesis by photoelectrochemical water splitting stands out as one of the most promising approaches. Oxygen evolution takes place at the anode\, to provide the protons and electrons for the complementary cathodic reaction (e.g.: hydrogen evolution\, CO2 reduction\, or nitrogen reduction). However\, there are several issues\, related to conversion efficiency\, stability and scalability\, which limit large-scale technological deployment of this technology. \nEfforts to overcome such limitations include the design of novel materials and devices\, as well as understanding carrier dynamics in the system. In this webinar\, we will discuss the recent advances on photoelectrochemical water splitting from these three different perspectives: novel materials\, mechanistic analysis and device design and scalability. This will include invited speakers from different European projects (OHPERA\, SUN2CHEM\, SUNGATE\, SOLAR2CHEM\, FLOWPHOTOCHEM and A-LEAF). The speakers will have 20 min presentation\, followed by 5 min of questions. The webinar will culminate with the forum “Perspectives on photoelectrochemical production of solar fuels” moderated by Prof. Sixto Gimenez\, dedicated to exploring the most promising strategies and future outlook in this field. Invited speakers and schedule of the webinar: \n  \nSPEAKERS:\n\n\n\n\n\nJinhyun Kim – EPFL (SUN2CHEM)\nRadim Beránek – UU (SUNGATE)\nLaia Francàs – UAB (A-LEAF)\nNúria López – ICIQ (OHPERA)\nPau Farràs – UG (FLOWFOTOCHEM)\nHaussenner Sophia – EPFL (SOLAR2CHEM)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n🔗 REGISTER HERE
