SUMMARY:49th Materials Processes Applications Conference
DESCRIPTION:📅 October 6th – 8th 2025📍 Stuttgart\, Germany\nThe intricate interaction between materials\, processes\, and applications is the backbone of innovation and performance optimization. Materials must be carefully selected and designed to meet the specific demands of various applications\, considering factors like strength\, durability\, and thermal resistance. In contrast to their continuum mechanical models\, real materials have a real microstructure with imperfections\, anisotropy\, segregations\, discontinuities\, pores and residual stresses. \nThese result from the respective manufacturing process of the material or component and have a significant influence on the material behavior and structural integrity in safety-critical applications. This dynamic relationship among materials\, processes\, and applications is a key focal point in advancing several sub-fields in mechanical engineering\, with each element influencing the overall success of mechanical engineering endeavors. \n\nMaterials:\n\n\nAt the core of the MPA conferences attention lies the pivotal role of materials\, where they confront a host of complex challenges. While steel in various forms as austenitic or martensitic continues to play a crucial role\, evolving applications necessitate the use of other materials like nickel-based alloys\, titanium and high-strength aluminum. \n\nProcesses:\n\nAt the MPA seminar\, processes are not only understood as manufacturing processes in the classic sense. Instead\, complex load cases are also regarded as processes resulting from the application and having a decisive influence on the structural integrity and life time of components. \n\nApplications:\n\n\nApplications in materials and mechanical engineering vary widely\, each demanding specific attributes from materials and (manufacturing) processes. These requirements include specific strength\, creep resistance\, and the ability to perform in high and low-temperature environments. \n📎 Read more and register here!!\n  \n

SUMMARY:Workshop on Perspectives and Review of the SUNGATE Hotspot Analysis | SUNGATE
DESCRIPTION:📅 June 23rd: 17:00-19:00 CET\n📍 Online via Teams\nEvent description: \nJoin this online workshop to discuss and provide feedback on the SUNGATE Hotspot analysis report for the potential of utilizing photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) technology for e-methanol production across Europe \nThe workshop will present and critically discuss the findings of the Hotspot Analysis developed within the SUNGATE project and place them in the broader context of emerging technologies and their role in future energy systems. \nKey insights from the analysis include: \n\nIdentification of geographic “hotspots” where production costs and demand align (e.g. regions of Southern France and Northern Germany)\nThe importance of land costs and investment costs as key drivers for economic feasibility\nThe mismatch between demand centers (e.g. ports\, industry hubs) and cost-efficient production areas\n\nWorkshop objective: \n\nPresentation of key results from the hotspot analysis and sensitivity analysis \nGather experts feedback on assumptions\, methodology\, and interpretations \nDiscussion on implication for future energy system and market uptake of PEC technologies \nExplore recommendations for successful deployment \n\nThis workshop is particularly relevant for: \n\nEnergy system modellers \nResearchers in Power-to-X technologies \nIndustry stakeholders \n\nYour expertise is essential to discuss the findings and perspectives for PECs in Europe. \nBackground context \nPhoto-electrochemical cell (PEC) technologies are emerging as a potential pathway for producing solar fuels by directly converting sunlight\, water and CO2 into energy carriers. While promising\, they are at an early stage of development and face technical\, economic\, and societal challenges. This workshop will help bridge modelling insights with real-world perspectives to support informed decisions for future deployment. \nThe SUNGATE project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101122061 \nThe workshop is hosted by DEMOCRACY X (formerly The Danish Board of Technology) as part of the SUNGATE project. DEMOCRACY X has over three decades of experience working with collaborative technology assessment and stakeholder engagement. \nRegistration: Register for the Workshop on Perspectives and Review of the SUNGATE Hotspot Analysis \nPlease direct any questions about the event to Project Manager Aske Palsberg\, aspa@demx.dk.
