Improvement of light harvesting and carbon fixation with synthetic biology and/or bio-inspired//biomimetic pathways for renewable direct solar fuels production
Development of microalgae and/or direct solar fuel production and purification technologies for making advanced aviation and /or shipping fuels from microalgae and/or direct sun use a techno-economic feasible, cost-effective and sustainable option for large-scale use of microalgae-based and/or solar-based advanced fuels in aviation and /or shipping. Activities are expected to achieve TRL 4-5 by the end of the project.

Renewable hydrogen used as feedstock in innovative production routes (Processes4Planet Partnership) (RIA)

EIC Pathfinder Open
You should apply if you are looking for support from EIC Pathfinder Open to realise an ambitious vision for radically new technology, with potential to create new markets and/or to address global challenges. EIC Pathfinder Open supports early stage development of such future technologies (e.g. various activities at low Technology Readiness Levels from 1 to 4), based on high-risk/high-gain science-towards-technology breakthrough research (including ‘deep-tech’). This research must provide the foundations of the technology you are envisioning.

Efficient and circular artificial photosynthesis (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-03)
Develop artificial photosynthesis solutions, which will minimize further downstream processing and increase their scalability and integration within the industrial value chain in respect of circularity.
Selected proposals will be funded with 3 to 5 million euro and are expected to achieve TRL 5 at the end of the action. Synergies are possible with SUNER-C CSA.

Air Liquide Scientific Challenge Edition 3
Air Liquide invites the scientific & innovation communities to propose disruptive solutions to decarbonize the industrial ecosystems, based on the Essential Small Molecules, Data and related technologies. The Air Liquide Scientific Challenge aims to identify up to 3 laureates. A scientific prize of €50,000 will be awarded to each of the laureate teams at the end of 2023. Moreover, the Group will support collaborations (up to four years) with a total funding up to €1 million to develop the selected scientific proposals and transform them into market-tailored technologies.

Development of algal and renewable fuels of non-biological origin (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-07)
Proposals will develop and improve algal and/or non-biological renewable fuel technologies (other than for hydrogen as a final product), through developing synthetic pathways including biological, biochemical, thermochemical, electrochemical processes or combinations of them.
Selected proposals will be funded with 5 million euro and are expected to reach TRL 4-5 at the end of the action. Synergies are possible with SUNER-C CSA.

Innovation Fund. Third call for large-scale projects
With a budget doubled to EUR 3 billion, this third call counts four topics, three of which are part of REPowerEU:
- Innovative electrification in industry and hydrogen (budget: EUR 1 billion)
- Clean tech manufacturing (budget: EUR 700 million)
- “Mid-sized pilots” projects for validating, testing and optimising highly innovative solutions (budget: EUR 300 million)
- General decarbonisation (budget: EUR 1 billion).

Development of novel long-term electricity storage technologies
Focus on longer-duration technologies, compared to lithium-ion technology. In scope are novel chemical, mechanical, thermic storage technology solutions, excluding batteries and hydrogen. Use of new advanced materials or new design solutions, always bearing in mind the objective of sustainability and circular economy, minimizing the environmental footprint, which should be underpinned by an LCA. 4-5 M€. Achieve TRL 4-5.

Safe-and-sustainable-by-design bio-based platform chemicals, additives, materials or products as alternatives
Perform a wider scoping exercise and select chemicals/ group of chemicals/ (advanced) materials/products and justify. Proceed then with design, (process) development and testing of the chosen bio-based alternatives. Integrate the safe-and-sustainable-by-design (SSbD) framework, for assessing the safety and sustainability of chemicals and materials. Activities are expected to achieve TRL 4-5 by the end of the project.
HORIZON-CL6-2023-ZEROPOLLUTION-02-2-two-stage

Accelerating climate-neutral hydrogen-powered/electrified aviation (RIA)
Project results should focus on transformative technologies that address existing technology gaps for an aircraft hydrogen and electrified powertrain of a megawatt class. Electrified aircraft propulsion is the use of electric motors to drive a subset or all of its propulsors. Hydrogen and electrified aircraft propulsion explicitly expands the scope to include hydrogen combustion propulsion. Activities are expected to achieve TRL 2-3 by the end of the project.

Development of carbon fixation technologies for biogenic flue gases (RIA)
Development of biological and chemical solutions to use the effluent gases from bioenergy combustion systems and upgrade biogenic carbon emissions for the production of renewable energy carriers with renewable hydrogen for later reuse as feedstock for energy needs and achieving carbon circularity. The effluent fixing solution has to be implemented in the conditions of the bioenergy combustion system and provide an integrated structure. Activities are expected to achieve TRL 5 by the end of the project.

HORIZON-JTI-CLEANH2-2023-01-04: Photoelectrochemical (PEC) and/or Photocatalytic (PC) production of hydrogen
Projects are expected to contribute to:
• Development of breakthrough technologies able to harvest the renewable energy source potential in the EU regions and neighbourhoods;
• Strengthening the solar-energy conversion technologies EU value-chain;
• Contribute to the demonstration of the first scalable photo(electro)chemical system by 2028;
• Execution of techno-economic analyses and/or technology-transfer scenarios.
