The Federal Government has adopted a National Hydrogen Strategy for Germany. Hydrogen is identified as a key tool for decarbonizing key German sectors such as the steel and chemical industries and the transport sector. Furthermore, hydrogen technologies are recognized the potential to become a key field of business for German exporters.

The strategy intends to expand the role of green hydrogen, obtained from renewable energy, through a plan to spend €9 billion earmarked for the project: https://www.bmwi.de/Redaktion/EN/Pressemitteilungen/2020/20200610-securing-a-global-leadership-role-on-hydrogen-technologies.htm
